2020 It’s Been a Crazy Ride – Hello 2021

It’s true, 2020 has been a crazy year for everyone and now 2021 has finally arrived. You often hear people say, “I’m so over 2020. I can’t wait until 2021.” The truth is, the January 1st milestone doesn’t really change anything from the day before it. You have to make those changes yourself. Make the resolution, and change your mindset. No one can predict the future or what’s going to happen in the upcoming year. The best thing you can do is have a positive attitude while facing it. It’s unlikely that things will go back to ‘normal’ or ‘the way they used to be’ and that’s okay.

Things change, they flow, and sometimes, you need to adapt.

The workplace, for example, will most likely move away from large office spaces and crowded cubicles and shift towards home offices and that can be a good thing. Make the best of your new situations.

Change your mindset!

So how do these changes and your new mindset apply? Start with this simple guideline. Offer unique value to your clients, your boss, those areas in your life that you want to be successful in. Set high, but attainable goals for yourself.

For example, you have your degree, and you need that licensing exam that you’ve been putting off for a few years now just to get that promotion. Don’t put it off anymore. Yes, a thousand dollars seems like a lot of money, but it’s an investment for the future of your career. Spend $1000.00 on a course, and within the lifetime of your career you can make an extra $1,000,000. That is a 1000% increase. Not only will you have more knowledge and unique value to provide, but the effort you put in pays off over time.

So instead of making a resolution you know you won’t keep, like cutting out that desert after dinner or giving up your favorite 5 o’clock happy hour —of course there’s no rule against making more than one resolution for yourself— commit to your education and the advancement of your career. When you look back at what you’ve done next December 31st, you’ll be thinking about everything you accomplished. What your goals were that year and the steps you took to meet them. Obtainable, high-reaching, positive goals that will provide value to you and those around you.
